Zoey Elliott had another strong showing for the Salem High School girls’ cross country team last week, finishing second overall individually in the St. James Invitational, held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Maramec Spring Park.
The girls’ individual medalist in the 5,000-meter race was Sullivan’s Vaessa Nolie, who finished with a time of 20:40.49. Runner-up was Elliott at 21:27.49.
In the girls’ team standings Pacific won with 21 points and St. Francis Borgia was second with 59. Salem did not field enough runners for a full team.
In the boys’ meet, host St. James won the team championship with 49 points while New Haven was second with 67. Salem was ninth with 219 points.
Pacific’s Benjamin Smith was the boys' medalist at 16:58.07. For the Salem boys, Stetson Mobray finished 36th at 21:08.44 while Nicholas Thies was 38th at 21:19.86.
Salem is scheduled to compete in the Licking Wildcat Invitational Thursday, Oct. 9.
