The Salem High School varsity volleyball team lost a couple of road matches last week.
The Lady Tigers fell at Summersville 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13) Monday, Sept. 22 and at Houston 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18) Tuesday, Sept. 23.
In the junior varsity matches Salem defeated Summersville 2-0 (25-18, 25-13) and Houston 2-0 (25-18, 25-13).
The Lady Tiger jayvee team also competed in the Licking JV Quad Saturday, Sept. 27, going 2-1). In the tourney the Salem jayvee squad beat Licking 2-0 (25-16, 25-11), beat Ava (25-12, 25-9), and lost to Sullivan (28-26, 25-23).
This week the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at St. Clair Monday, Sept. 29; host Willow Springs Tuesday, Sept. 30 (5 p.m.); host Thayer Thursday, Oct. 2 (5 p.m.), and play in the Houston Tournament Saturday, Oct. 4. Salem is also slated to play in the Potosi JV Tournament Oct. 4.
Two weeks ago the Lady Tigers went 1-2 in three home games, beating Cuba Monday, Sept. 15 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-22); falling to Potosi Tuesday, Sept. 16 3-0 (25-16, 26-15, 25-16), and being clipped by Ava Thursday,
Sept. 18 in five games 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-11).
Salem swept to wins in the junior varsity matches, beating Cuba 25-12, 26-24, Potosi 25-13, 26-24 and Ava 25-8, 25-15.
The Salem varsity also lost at Eminence Sept. 9 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-17), lost at home to Owensville Sept. 11 3-1 (25-17, 24-16, 22-25, 25-10) and in the West Plains Showdown Sept. 13 finished second in the silver bracket with a 2-4 mark, losing to Mt. Vernon 2-0 (25-17, 25-7), losing to West Plains 2-0 (25-9, 25-19), losing to Highland, Ark. 2-0 (25-18, 25-15), beating Springfield Central 2-1, beating Highland in a rematch 2-0 and losing to Mountain View Liberty 2-0.
Salem freshman Josie Bowers was named to the West Plains Showdown All-Tournament Team.
The Salem JV team beat Owensville 2-1 Sept. 11.
