What puts the "grrr" in tigers? A great assembly can bring out everyone's school spirit and provide a few laughs along the way. The first student council-led assembly took place on Friday, September 12th, during strive time in the Salem Senior High School gymnasium. As the student council president, I was determined to create a memorable experience that would resonate with my peers and lay the foundation for a year filled with participation and school spirit. Our first assembly was not just about boosting school spirit; it was also about having fun, enjoying engaging activities, and creating a lively atmosphere.
The student council's first assembly was a rollercoaster of unexpected and memorable events. We kicked off with a drawing for a $25 gift card, won by Jager Bracken. But the real surprise came when Coach Myers took the stage for a skit with Bracken. In a hilarious twist, Myers pretended to disqualify Bracken from the drawing, making the student body burst with laughter.
After the skit, we organized a 'finish the lyrics' game. Brave, pre-selected volunteers from each class took the spotlight and belted out the a cappella chorus of popular songs. The audience was on the edge of their seats, cheering on their classmates. The first students to perform were Michael Lee and his friend Lucas Jennings from the freshman class, who covered 'Cruel Summer' by Taylor Swift. Next up was Keegan Bailey from the sophomore class, who performed 'Unwritten' by Natasha Bedingfield. Following him was Ben Land from the junior, who covered 'Wonderwall' by Oasis. Last but certainly not least, Osmar Ramirez from the senior class closed the show with 'U Can't Touch This' by M.C. Hammer. The crowd went wild, clapping and cheering for their fellow students. To close the assembly, Mr. Clay Moody led a few chants to hype everyone up for the football game happening after school. The overwhelming positive response from the audience was a testament to the success of the event and the high level of school spirit it generated.
The Senior High School student council's first assembly was a testament to our unity and school spirit. The funny skit, the brave a cappella performances, and the spirited chants all served to bring us together. It was a fun, back-to-school event that united Salem Senior High School students, allowed them to engage in fun activities, and ultimately boosted our sense of community.
