Bonnie Jean Kohut was born August 4, 1930, in Salem Mo. to Hamilton A. Melone and Bess Plant Melone. She transitioned peacefully at the age of 95 on Nov. 30th, 2025, in the Salem Memorial Long Term Care Wing.
On May 6, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gerald Y. Kohut.
She had three children, Pamala Bloom, Cherie Kelly and Mark H. Kohut. She also has three grandchildren, Joshua Bloom, Gabriel Bloom and Melody Kohut.
Proceeding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Melone, her husband Jerry Kohut and her daughter Cherie Kelly.
She will be cremated, as she requested, and her ashes placed in the family plot at Cedar Grove Cemetery next to her husband.
Bonnie grew up in Salem. She lived many years in California raising her family. After the passing of her husband, she returned to Salem to care for her mother. Those of us left to cherish her memory will recall her radiant sprit sparked by her Christian Faith. This spirit presented itself through her music, art, love of children, literature, and ability to connect people to creative endeavors where they could shine. Her boundless giving energy impacted every soul she touched.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a future date.
