The air sparkled with electricity as Rolan Bolan took the stage, ready to breathe new life into his father's iconic song, "Chrome Sitar." The T. Rex tribute night was nothing short of a glam-rock dream. This glitter-soaked celebration brought together musicians from across the country to honor the legendary Marc Bolan, the frontman of T. Rex. Held at the intimate and ever-stylish Three Clubs in Los Angeles, the event lit up the night on Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m., creating a whirlwind of nostalgia, music, and magic.
Before the tribute kicked off, Olya Sonica and her band performed some of their original songs, including "You Only Live Forever" and "I Used to Be a Mountain." After showcasing her own material, she delivered a fantastic cover of "Cigarettes and Alcohol" by Oasis. As Sonica's performance came to an end, it was finally time for the moment everyone had been waiting for.
As the house lights dimmed and the stage lights pulsed a cool electric blue, the energy in the room shifted. This wasn't just another tribute show. Fans packed shoulder to shoulder, glitter in their hair and sequins catching the light, united by their shared devotion to Marc Bolan and the undeniable mark he left on music. As soon as those first T. Rex riffs rang out, the crowd erupted — people jumped to their feet, dancing like no one was watching. Musicians from all over America — California, Missouri, Louisiana, New York, and Florida — came together, united by their love for Marc Bolan's music. From "20th Century Boy" to "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" to "Soul of My Suit," it was hit after glittery hit, with everyone putting their own spin on the classics. The talented musicians that played were: Rolan Bolan, Olya Sonica Band, The Yowl, Tony Mann, Adam Stackple, Bernie Godwin, Maddy Caddell, Aristotle Dreher, Fernando Perdomo, Spencer Hynes, Chuck McKissock, Stephanie Spruill, and Michael Baylock. The night ended with DJ Roger Mars playing some awesome tunes.
THE Gloria Jones was in attendance which is Marc’s soulmate and Rolan’s mother. Natalie McDonald, the creator of the T. Rex fan club was also in attendance, cheering the musicians on.
By the end of the T. Rex tribute, it was clear that the night wasn't just about taking time to appreciate the past; it was about carrying Marc Bolan's legacy forward. The tribute was a mystical night filled with nostalgia, music, and magic, just the way Marc Bolan would've wanted it to be.
