The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meetings Monday, Jan. 12 and Thursday, Jan. 8. In attendance included County Clerk Angie Curley, Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson, First District Commissioner Keith Green, and Second District Commissioner Jimmy Williams.
Residents on County Road 2155 submitted a petition for a speed limit to be set at 20 miles per hour. The commission approved, signed the order, and will send information on to law enforcement and State Highway Patrol. The county will be ordering signs.
Larson reported that he attended the Phelps County Housing Authority meeting, in which there was an update on the audit report and financial presentation. After, he attended the External Relations meeting, in which they discussed state legislative priorities and federal priorities.
At the MRPC meeting, Larson shared that several state representatives attended, in which attendees disclosed concerns. In addition, he shared State Representative John Hewkin will be making an appearance at one of the county commission meetings in the future.
Curley reported that payroll is to be approved, and that she has balanced with the collector and assessor on all monthly abatements, collections, and add-ons for December. The treasurer and her have balanced on all accounts for the whole year of 2025.
Certifications for April municipal election are due by Jan. 27.
Curley shared that Tuesday, Jan. 13 (today) there will be a tentative budget made available to the public.
Zach Moser, with the Health Department, provided the monthly report.
Shannon Vankirk, collector, discussed her budget request with the commission.
Derrick Marfitt, Dent County Sheriff’s Office, discussed the position of Emergency Management Director. He shared he has created an LLC. license, Mid-Missouri Emergency Solutions, LLC. The commission is waiting on legal counsel to go over the contract.
Denita Williams, treasurer, reported on sales tax received for January:

• Road and bridge received $48,372.69
• Jails received $97,096.82

District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be grading county roads 4080 and 5490; finishing brush cutting on County Road 5615; and hauling rock where needed.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading county roads 4437, 2313, 6160, and 6140. Crew members will also be brush cutting and hauling rock on County Road 2313.

District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be grading on county roads 4090, 5450, and the 2400s; hauling rock to county road 4090 and 5450, as needed; and cutting brush on County Road 5680.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading on county roads 4480, 4030, 5330, and 5333; hauling rock to County Road 4030; and cutting brush on County Road 2413. Maintenance will be done on tractor #9.
