Dorothy Long, of Salem, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her sister’s home on Saturday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 96.
Dorothy was born on August 16, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Marion and Maggie (Crabtree) Rasor. She was united in marriage to Edward Long.
Dorothy worked as a waitress for most of her working life. She was known for her wit and humor and was a joy to work with. Her customers grew used to her quick wit, and she was truly a jokester who brought smiles to many faces.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking, eating tomatoes, planting lots of flowers so she could enjoy the hummingbirds that flocked not only to her blooms but also to the many hummingbird feeders she hung around her home. She was a beloved sister and aunt and will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Betty Rasor of Salem, Missouri, and Peggy Mann of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, Pam Hallum, Pat Armstrong and Sharon Kendal; nephew, James Mann and Perry Rasor; a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Long; brothers, George Rasor and Edward Rasor; and brother-in-law, James Mann.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary, with Pastor Charlie Younger officiating. Interment will follow at Patterson Cemetery at Montauk, MO. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the chapel prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
