The 62nd Rose Holland Trout Derby over the weekend of Oct. 3-5 raised a total of $16,692 to support the American Heart Association, surpassing its goal of $15,000 with the help of the Current River Cruisers Club and a Cornhole Tournament, along with other events of the day. The Current River Cruisers Club helped raise $2,500, while the Cornhole Tournament helped raise $400.
Many events on Saturday also contributed to the proceeds, such as the Bake Sale; Hot Dogs & Chili; face painting; and, most of all, registrations to fish in the derby, which brought in approximately $7,000, reported staff.
New to this years event was the first annual Cornhole Tournament, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri Department of Conservation park staff. Twenty teams competed to raise $400. There were lots of great prizes won.
Kids attending the derby were treated to pony rides, bounce houses, and exploration of the Montauk Fire Department’s fire engine. Young and old visited with face-painters Kenzie and Chloe, with their favorites of the day being a father and son who could be seen in matching tiger faces.
“Thanks to all who donated and volunteered, and those who participated to make this year’s American Heart Association fundraiser another big success,” said Derby Chairman Darlene Griffith.
Daily tag sales included 990 sold on Saturday, Oct. 4, and 735 sold on Sunday, Oct. 5. Griffith shared that nine lunkers were caught in total.
