The Jadwin Missouri Volunteer Fire Department recently received a new to them Fire Engine to better serve the community.
The 2003 Spartan Rosenbaugh Engine replaces the aged 1985 Ford Engine as the new front-line engine. It features a 1250 GPM pump with 1000 gallons of water onboard and is equipped to respond to fire and rescue calls.
“The National Fire Protection Association recommends the life span of fire apparatus to not exceed 25 years. This engine replaces our previous front-line engine that was 39 years old, and was frequently needing repair to keep it fully operational. This new engine allows us to operate under the NFPA recommendation and stay fully operational through reduced need for repair” said JVFD Captain Carl Van Vliet.
Chief Jack Ficker commented, “being a non-tax based department where there is no tax funding for use making a large purchase such as this difficult for a rural membership based department. We are grateful to have received a $20,000 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant to help fund the purchase. We will be able to better serve or community with this new engine”
This last year JVFD was also able to acquire new structural firefighting turn out gear and new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant program. These new SCBA’s and turn out gear bring our firefighters into the 21st century and allow us to fight fire more safely and efficiently.
The Jadwin Volunteer Fire Department serves a large area of southern Dent County, parts of Shannon County and communities such as Jadwin, Akers, Turtle and other non-incorporated areas of the county with fire suppression, vehicle extrication and rescue, search and rescue and medical emergencies. New volunteers are always welcome.
The community is invited to come out and see the new engine on January 18, at 5 p.m. and stay for chili cookoff and pie supper and meet the officers and firefighters that serve their community.
