The season came to a close for the fourth-seeded Salem High boys’ tennis team with a 5-0 dual-meet loss to top-seeded Springfield Catholic in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 5 Tournament Tuesday, May 6 at Logan-Rogersville High School.
In quarterfinal action Monday, May 5, Salem topped fifth-seeded Willow Springs 5-2; Catholic shut out eighth-seeded Licking 5-0; second-seeded Logan-Rogersville shut out seventh-seeded Houston 5-0, and third-seeded Osage shut out sixth-seeded Mountain Grove 5-0.
In the championship meet Wednesday, May 7 Catholic defeated Rogersville 5-0.
Salem ends its dual-meet season with a 11-4 record.
“It was a great season,” said Tiger coach Will Hubbs. “The players worked really hard and we kept improving the entire year. This has been one of the hardest-working teams I have ever coached.”

Atkinson beat David Protsenko, 6-4, 6-2.
May 6: Catholic 5, SHS 0 – Doubles: Smith/Gapsch lost to Brett Crockett/ Joseph Daues, 8-2. Canaday/Atkinson lost to Jason Schmittling/Riedy Davis, 8-0. Headrick/Wilmont lost to Trey East/Dax Barnhouse, 8-1. Singles: Headrick lost to Davis, 6-1, 6-1. Wilmont lost to East, 6-0, 6-1.
