Junior Zoey Elliott of the Salem High cross country team won medalist honors in leading the girls’ field at the Belle Invitational, held Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Belle City Park.
The invitational had been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23 but was backed up a day due to the rainy weather.
Elliott was the Salem highlight, winning the girls’ race with a time of 22:47.35 over the 5,000-meter course. Runner-up was Steelville’s Adalei Perkins at 23:04.08.
Only two schools had two full girls’ squads, and Linn and Steelville each had 28 points.
In the boys’ meet Vienna won the team title with 41 points while New Haven was second with 45. Salem placed fifth with 134.
Steelville’s Landon Rutledge was the boys’ medalist with a time of 17:14.74. Pacing Salem was Jordin Shereman, who finished 23rd overall at 20:59.85.
This week the Tiger runners were scheduled to compete in the St. James Invitational Tuesday at Maramec Springs Park (3:30 p.m.).
