Graveside service for Vearl “VC” Charles Counts was September 27, 2025 at Blackwell Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Enloe officiating. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 99 and United States Army Honors Team. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary, Salem.
Mr. Counts was born March 13, 1937 in St. Louis to Pless and Edna (Russell) Counts. He married Ava Jean Brooks October 3, 1959. They were the parents of three children. Mr. Counts died September 23, 2025 in Salem at the age of 88 years.
Survivors include his children, Melanie Flood and husband, Michael, Hurley; Brad Counts and wife, Delinda, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Melissa Ragsdale and husband, Ricky, Salem; sister, Melba Lee Pflueger, Florida; special friends, Treva Brown and Shirley Counts; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nephews, Salem Allen Pflueger and Russell Counts Pflueger and wife, Julia Harriss Pflueger; and a host of extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ava Counts; and parents.
Mr. Counts served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
