The remarkable survival story of a Missouri woman, Kim Case, will be featured in the season two finale of Investigation Discovery’s series Surviving Evil 8 p.m. Nov. 5.
In June 1990, after ending an evening shift at a restaurant in Gladstone, 19-year-old Kim Jackson is unaware her car is being followed by a gang of four men in search of a victim. Confronted in her driveway, she is attacked, thrown in the back seat of their car, and handcuffed to one of her captors.
Kim is overtaken by terror—no one knows she’s been abducted, and she has no way to call for help. While completely at the mercy of the four men, Kim’s will to survive kicks in.
Hoping to reach some shred of humanity in her captors, she fabricates a story about being pregnant. But instead of showing mercy, they unleash a night of unbelievable violence and psychological torture. When they lead her to a nearby barn at dawn, she’s convinced she is being marched to her death but, clinging to hope and leaning on her faith, Kim digs deep and finds the courage to survive.
Kim Jackson is now Kim Case, 44, a victim advocate manager for the Missouri Sheriff’s Association who lives in Warrensburg. She has been involved with victims’ rights since her abduction, going on to earn a degree in criminal justice. She meets with about 50 victims a month. She is there to help victims, because over 24 years ago she needed someone to stand with her.
A year ago Case spoke in Salem at the Dent County Ladies Soup and Salad Dinner at First Baptist Church, with proceeds going to the Dent County Women’s Crisis Center, which serves victims of abuse.
She was featured in a story in The Salem News, and the story this month was awarded an honorable mention in the Missouri Press Association’s annual writing contest.
Recently, Kim has taken her advocacy a step farther, forming Kim Case Ministries. More information about the ministry is available at kimcase.org.
Surviving Evil is hosted by actress Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel), who is also the survivor of a near-fatal attack. Surviving Evil offers an empowering and inspiring look at true-crime stories in which the victim turns the table on their assailant in order to stay alive.
