The City of Salem is preparing for Winter Storm Fern, which will bring single-digit temperatures and wind chills below zero this weekend. This storm is expected to impact about one-third of the United States, causing very high electric demand across the country.
The most critical time is Monday morning from 6:00–11:00 a.m.
If the City of Salem sets a new peak demand for total electric use, the city will pay higher electricity costs for the next 12 months. This could impact electric rates for customers in the future.
Please help by safely conserving electricity:
• Lower your thermostat a few degrees if safe
• Turn off lights and electronics you are not using
• Delay laundry, dishwashers, and other large appliances
• Use space heaters carefully and only when needed
Stay warm, stay safe, and avoid travel if possible during extreme cold. To report an electric outage, call or text 833-703-4811.
Every small action helps protect our electric system and control future costs.
