Vernon Freddie Hill, son of Willard Paul and Emma Francis (Hutson) Hill, was born on March 15, 1943, in Westfork, Missouri. He departed this life on Sunday March 1, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 82, with his loving wife, Mary, and his children, Freddie and Lisa, by his side.
At the age of 16, Vernon made the decision to follow Christ and joined Happy Home United Baptist Church.
On November 3, 1962, Vernon was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Crocker) Hill. The couple began their life together in St. Louis, where Vernon worked at McDonnell Douglas. In the fall of1966, they made the decision to return to Westfork, where they later built their family home of sixty years.
After returning to the family farm, Vernon also worked at St. Joe Lead Company, which later became Doe Run. While working in the mines, Vernon continued building up the family farm. During the years they were building their home, they also began building their family. Vernon and Mary were blessed with three children: Freddie Dewayne, Michael Vernon,
In May 25, 1968, Vernon was ordained as a Deacon at Happy Home United Baptist Church, faithfully serving in that role until his passing. He also served on the Board of the Westfork Sutterfield Cemetery from the late 1970’s until his death.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; and one grandson, Brandon Scott Hill. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his son, Freddie and wife Kim Hill of Nixa; and his daughter, Lisa and husband Darrell Mast of Boss. He is also survived by his grandchildren: James Hill of Sparke, Florida; Brooke and Jesse Rathbun Aurora, Missouri; Brittany and Cody Goldenberg of Nixa; Joshua and Lila Mast of Boss; Lynn Mast of Salem; and Jessi Mast of Point Lookout, Missouri. His great-grandchildren include William Hohenfeldt, Renee Mast, Emma Camden, Karlie Goldenberg, Warren Mast and coming soon Baby Rathbun.
He is further survived by one brother, Paul and wife Sharon Hill of Hollister, Missouri. Vernon’s dedication to his faith, family and farm will be remembered for generations to come.
