A Salem man faces more than 20 felony offenses in connection to allegedly possessing child pornography, according to documents filed in circuit court.
Edward L. Lane, born 1966, is charged in a March 4 warrant with 20 counts of possession of child pornography and four counts of failure to register as a sex offender. Lane was previously convicted of forcible rape and sodomy in Lawrence County as well as failure to register as a sex offender in Lawrence County and Dent County.
Investigation of Lane was initiated by the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force stemming from a cyber tip an internet user had uploaded images of child pornography, according to the case’s probable cause statement. The statement says law enforcement executed a search warrant at Lane’s home on March 3 during which potentially more than 100 videos of child pornography were found uploaded to a cellular device. Evidence was also obtained of Lane’s use of multiple social media accounts not reported as part of his sex offender registry.
While speaking with law enforcement the statement says Lane made admissions to knowingly being in possession of child pornography but said he didn’t know how he obtained the content. The statement concludes by citing several child-sized sex dolls were also found in his possession.
The charges described above are merely accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before the court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
