The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meeting Thursday, Jan. 15. In attendance included Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson, First District Commissioner Keith Green, Second District Commissioner Jimmy Williams, and County Clerk Angie Curley. No meeting was held Monday, Jan. 19, as the courthouse was closed in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Larson reported that he attended the IDA meeting, where members reviewed financials. The Economic Development Director Carrie Sutterfield provided her report. Sherman Odom spoke about Spring Creek Ridge, a Salem Housing project. The $13 million dollar project has construction planned to begin in September 2026, to continue through October 2028.
Stan Podorski, of KSMO Radio, informed the commission that there was no notice sent out regarding the deadline to apply for opioid funds being Wednesday, Jan. 14. Larson informed Podorski that he will be notifying Deputy Letchworth of the issue, to see about a time extension.
Curley reported that Tuesday, Jan. 27 is the deadline for certification of elections or non-elections for the April 7 municipal election.
The 2025 Financial Statement has been prepared and will be published, reported Curley.
Collector Shannon Vankirk provided her monthly report. She collected for December a total of $7,000,034. She is turning over $6,732,251.73 for PP and RE, holding the surtax until February, as normal. She also turned over an additional $204,336.03 in railroad and utilities.
District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be out replacing a pipe on County Road 4122, as well as stock piling rock. Crew members will be checking pipes and replacing if needed. Chips are arriving for chip and seal projects.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading on county roads 3330 and 4410; brush cutting on County Road 2590; hauling rock to County Road 3330; and doing maintenance on a truck. Crew members will also be working in the Sligo area.
