The Dent County Fire Protection District Board met for a board meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9. In attendance included board members Mike Godi, David Greenshields, Dr. Leigh Ann Price, Jeff Stokes, and John Knight. The monthly reimbursement report was presented with a total of 19 calls for the month and 190 total calls for the year.
In old business, the Fidelity (CTI) Tower lease was tabled. The bank account for Bond Payments, as approved in the July meeting, with Bank of Salem was discussed and approved as a Money Market account with two signature checks. Signatures allowed would be the treasurer and all board members.
The trucks that have been declared surplus were wanted by local rural departments. It was approved to sell the trucks to rural departments that provide mutual aid.
The assistant chief presented a bid to repair the drop cords in the bay and lights in the parking lot. After discussion, it was approved to complete the electric for $4,700.00 on the parking lot lights. The bay will be time and labor only.
In new business, the traffic safety equipment quotes were presented, including quotes for safety vests and safety lights. After discussion, it was approved to purchase 30 Guardian Angel Lights for a total of $1,800.00. For safety vests, it was approved to purchase 50 vests, not to exceed a $2,500.00 purchase price.
Meanwhile, Anjanette Privett and Patti McKeown from Sleep in Heavenly Peace were in attendance to talk about a Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed build on Sept. 13. Also, Price discussed the Dent County Courthouse 155th Celebration—the board approved having three trucks at the celebration on Oct. 4.
Chief Dennis Floyd also presented quotes for the following items:
• vent fans, which was tabled for more information
• vent saws, with three electric vent saws approved for purchase at $3,990.00
• a K12 Saw, approved for a total price of $2,328.00
• rescue dummies, with three practice dummies approved for purchase at $5,075.00, plus shipping
• a search and rescue training room, with the board approving the purchase of materials to build the training room, to be built by firefighters
• a calibration machine and two Multigas Detectors, with the board approving the purchase of two detectors with calibration tools for $6,872.66.
The board also approved decommissioning eight SCBA Scott Packs, of which parts are no longer available.
