Fall sports programs across the state can begin practice for the 2019 campaign Monday, Aug. 12, and the four Salem High School teams will have a busy week.
The Tiger football, softball, volleyball and cross country squads are set to start preseason practice on Aug. 12. Here is the four Salem fall sports and their practice times for next week:
Football: The extremely young Salem football squad will hold its opening practices under first-year head coach Dylan Wyrick from 3:30-6 p.m. Monday through Friday of next week. On Aug. 17 the Tigers will hold their annual Blue-White Scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on the game field. Salem is coming off a 3-7 overall record and a 2-5 SCA mark in 2018.
Softball: Head coach Phil Karr will welcome his squad to practice from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at City Park starting on Monday of next week. Salem advanced to the semifinals of the district tourney last season and ended its 2018 season at 8-12.
Volleyball: First-year head coach Rocky Sandlin will hold his first Lady Tiger practice from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Salem High School gym Monday. That will be the practice time for the first week. Salem is attempting to bounce back from a 9-20 campaign of a year ago.
Cross Country: Travis Sampson returns to lead the Salem cross country squad, which will hold practice sessions starting at 3:10 p.m. Aug. 12-14 and starting at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 15-16.
