A Dent County woman had a three-felony warrant issued for her arrest Wednesday in connection to a Sunday standoff with law enforcement, according to documents filed in circuit court.
Rebecca S. Halcomb, 41, is charged with one count of armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Her bond was set at $100,000. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday Halcomb was under medical supervision and not currently in law enforcement custody.
A resident in the 2800 block of Highway 119 called the sheriff’s office 7:32 p.m. Sunday to report Halcomb was “high on meth” and threatening individuals with a firearm, according to the case’s probable cause report.
Deputies met the reporting party at the Tradewinds General Store where he said he and his 11-year-old daughter arrived at their nearby residence to retrieve school items when Halcomb confronted them, pulled out a pistol and threatened to kill him. The reporting party further relayed that Halcomb was wearing only an unsecured robe and was “walking around and exposing herself to everyone.”
The report states the deputies responded to the residence and ordered Halcomb to exit. She was spotted at an upstairs window and yelled: “I’m not coming out. You’ll have to come get me.”
After she refused to show her hands or cooperate, the deputies opted to secure the scene and call for back up. The report states the ensuing standoff lasted “several hours.”
During the impasse the report says deputies attempted to reason with Halcomb by advising her they wanted to hear her side of the story, however, she did not cooperate and continued to make derogatory comments toward the officers. The report also quotes Halcomb as making several incriminating comments. She allegedly admitted to pulling a gun on the reporting party and told the law enforcement officers to join her upstairs and “see what happens.”
Halcomb also allegedly yelled she wanted to “protect herself and family from monsters.” The report details she then “began rambling about child molesters being in the woods.” When asked what she meant, the report says she responded that she’d called the sheriff’s office about a child molester being in her driveway but nothing was done.
Law enforcement on scene opted to deploy CS gas to take her into custody. The report states when confronted by officers, Halcomb wouldn’t let go of her pistol and had to he shot with a “less-lethal bean bag to her right flank.” After Holcomb was arrested, a Ruger LCP pistol was recovered from the scene. An officer said while attempting to make the firearm safe a round fell down the sink, and it was not able to be retrieved.
