Not only did His Place host a back-to-school event Aug. 9, the organization also distributed school supplies to R-I, R-II, R-III and R-IV schools before classes began last week. Director Ahleesha Elwood asked each school about two specific needs, which included Clorox wipes, pencils, Kleenex, and hand sanitizer. Over $6,200 was collected, surpassing the original goal of $5,000. Monies came from business and personal donations. With approximately $3,500, the supplies were bought for each of the aforementioned rural schools.

The remaining funds were used to purchase new pillows, shoes, and other items for the first 200 school-age children present at the Aug. 9 event.

His Place hopes to continue the donations and help more students each year.
