Zoey Elliott of the Salem High School girls’ cross country team finished third individually during the South-Central Association Championships, held Monday, Oct. 13 at the Willow Springs Golf Course.
There were only two full teams in the SCA girls’ field, with Houston winning the team title with 25 points and Mountain Grove runner-up with 32. Houston’s Lyla Huffman was the girls’ individual medalist with a time of 20:35.03 over the 5,000-meter course. Elliott was third at 24:02.14.
In the boys’ meet the Salem Tigers finished seventh in the team standings with 154 points. Mountain Grove won the boys’ team crown with 58 while Ava was second with 70. Isaac Smith of Ava was the boys’ medalist at 17:18.81. Leading the Salem boys was Nicholas Thies, who was 21st at 21:49.93.
Salem is scheduled to run again in the Class 3 District 2 Meet Nov. 1 at Eldorado Springs. Other schools in the District 2 field include Aurora, Ava, Buffalo, Cassville, Clever, East Newton, Fair Grove, Forsyth, Hollister, Houston, Lamar, Mtn. View Liberty, Mtn. Grove, Mt. Vernon, Osage, Reeds Spring, Seneca, Springfield Catholic, Strafford, Warsaw and Willow Springs.
The top four finishing full teams, plus the other top 30 individual runners, move on from district to the Class 3 State Championships, to be held Nov. 7 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia.
