Coach Marcus Gorman understands his team’s mental toughness.
“If we can be tougher than our opponent, we will win,” Gorman said after the Lady Wildcats’ 51-26 victory over the Licking Lady Wildcats at the Bunker High School Gymnasium.
Keira Turnbough scored 17 points leading the Bunker Lady Eagles on Thursday night. With the win over Class 3, Licking, the Lady Eagles go to 17-2 with six regular season games to play. The state playoffs follow beginning on Feb. 23.
“We were mentally tough at St. James on Wednesday and tonight against Licking,” Coach Gorman continued his thoughts. “Keira performed well, we had a balance scoring night. There was great balance and each player made strong contributions.”
The leading season scorer for the Lady Wildcats, junior Keeley Gorman, tore her ACL Jan. 5 against Iberia in a Frisco League Conference game. She was averaging 18 points a game at the time of her knee injury.
Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Kinsey Barton, 13; Hailey Turbough, 12; Kara Barton, 6; and Bella Sanders, 3. The Lady Eagles played great defense leading 21-9 at the intermission never looking back.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 9 against the Mountain View Liberty Lady Eagles. The South Central Association conference school will bring a record of 9-12 to Bunker Gymnasium on Monday.
