Junior Zoey Elliott of the Salem High girls’ cross country team has qualified for the Missouri Cross Country State Championships with her performance at the Class 3 District 2 Meet Saturday, Nov. 1 at El Dorado Springs.
The top four teams and 30 individuals moved on from district to the Missouri Class 3 State Meet, to be held Friday, Nov. 7 at the Gans Creek Course in Columbia.
Elliott finished 14th individually at the district meet Saturday with a time of 22:10.72 over the 5,000-meter course. Fair Grove’s Katrina Cantwell was the girls’ district medalist with a time of 19:14.70. Osage won the girls’ team title with 52 points while Houston was runner-up with 86.
In the boys’ meet Springfield Catholic won the team crown with 63 points and Osage was second with 79. Salem finished 15th with 433.
Hollister’s Scenery Mendoza was the boys’ medalist at 15:37.18. Stetson Mobray was the top Salem finisher, placing 78th.
