The Salem High baseball team has been seeded fifth for the Missouri Class 4 District 4 Tournament, to be held May 13-18 at Owensville.
Sullivan (14-8 at district seeding meeting) is the No. 1 seed while St. James (7-13) is No. 2, St. Clair (10-11) No. 3, Cuba (6-15) No. 4, Salem (7-15) No. 5 and Owensville (3-17) No. 6.
In the first round, May 13 Salem takes on Cuba at noon while St. Clair meets Owensville at 2:30 p.m.
In the semifinals May 15 Sullivan plays the Salem/Cuba winner at 4 p.m. while St. James takes on the St. Clair/Owensville winner at 6:30 p.m. The championship game is set for 4 p.m. May 18.
Salem went 1-3 in games last week.
May 2 the Tigers lost to Cuba 13-1. And in the Salem Tournament the host Tigers bounced back to shut out Cuba 5-0 and lost to Sullivan 10-3, May 4. May 6 Salem lost to Licking 4-0.
In the tournament Pacific won the championship while Sullivan was second, Licking third, Salem fourth, Cuba fifth and Waynesville sixth.
This week the Tigers were scheduled to wrap up the regular season May 8 with an SCA home game against Mountain Grove.
May 6 – Licking 4, Salem 0: The Tigers were shut out on two hits. Licking got two runs in the top of the third inning and one in each of the fourth and sixth frames.
Licking outhit Salem 9-2. Junior Trethan Richter and sophomore Cayden Moody had hits for Salem.
Three Tigers pitched, with sophomore Corbett Ball starting and getting the loss.
May 4 – Sullivan 10, Salem 3: Sullivan took control early, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning and three in the fifth. Salem got single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh.
Ball had a double, single and RBI for Salem while sophomore Kash Howard had two hits and scored a run; junior Haiden Sanders had a hit, run and RBI; T. Richter had a hit and RBI, and sophomore Roy Stevens had a hit.
May 4 – Salem 5, Cuba 0: Salem took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the second inning and added two more in the fifth.
Meanwhile, the Tiger pitching tandem of junior Kaiden DuBois and Ball shut the Wildcats out on five hits. DuBois allowed five hits and one walk on five innings while striking out nine. Ball threw two hitless innings, walking two and striking out two.
Moody clubbed a double, two singles, an RBI and scored a run for Salem while Howard tripled and scored; Ball had a hit and two RBI; Sanders a hit, RBI and run; T. Richter had an RBI and run, and Stevens scored. T. Richter, Sanders and Moody all stole a base.
May 2 – Cuba 13, Salem 1: Cuba scored in every inning of a game stopped after five innings due to the run rule. The Wildcats got four runs in the top of the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth. Salem got its run in the third and was outhit 11-2.
DuBois had a double and Howard a single for the Tigers.
Three pitchers threw for the Tigers, who combined for nine earned runs on 11 hits and seven walks.
Salem won the high-scoring, three-inning junior varsity game 21-11, getting 10 runs in the first inning, six in the second and five in the third.
Howard had a triple, single, three RBI and two runs in the junior varsity game while sophomore Blake Edwards three hits, four RBI and two runs; Ball had a double, four RBI and two runs; freshman Landen Richter two hits, two RBI and two runs; sophomore Jaxon Raulston two hits, three RBI and a run; sophomore James Bobbitt a double, single, RBI and run; freshman Hayden Ragsdale a hit, two RBI and two runs, and junior Karsen Barred and freshman Thomas Harris each scored three times.
