Competing in the largest field of its regular season, Salem’s boys placed second overall in the 20-school Ava Relays, held Thursday.
Host Ava won the boys’ team title with 105 points, while the Tigers were second with 91 points and Willow Springs third with 89.
Salem won two events, Kaden Coffman in the 200-meter dash with a time of :23.27 and John Myslinski in the 1,600-meter run at 4:49.
Tiger second places were by Coffman in the 100-meter dash at :11.35; Caden Camden in the pole vault at 11-11 ¾, and Matthew Fulton in the shot put at 40-9.
Third places for the Salem boys were by Dawson Mock in both the 110-meter hurdles at :17.51 and triple jump at 38-2; Tyler Hancock in the pole vault at 9-5 ¾, and the 4x100-meter relay team at :46.69.
The Lady Tigers placed fourth in the 17-school team standings. Ava also won the girls’ team crown with 176 points, followed by Willow Springs second with 97, Mountain Grove third with 58 and Salem fourth with 54.
Savannah Manthey and Ashton Mink each had a pair of wins for the Salem girls in the field events.
Manthey captured the pole vault at 7-11 ½ and the javelin at 101-4 ,while Mink won both the discus at 105-2 and shot put at 35-7 ¼.
This week Salem was slated to compete in the Southwest Baptist Meet at Bolivar Wednesday and in the St. James Invitational Friday.
Next week the Tigers are scheduled to host the SCA Meet May 3 at the Salem High track (1 p.m.).
