The Salem High cross-country team opened its season in the Steve Waggoner Invitational, held Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course.
In the boys’ meet Salem finished fifth in the team standings with 130 points. West Plains swept to the team title with 15 points.
West Plains’ Carson King won the boys’ meet medalist honors with a time of 16:41.23. Pacing Salem was junior Alex Diehl, who finished 18th overall at 19:50.19.
In the girls’ meet West Plains won the team title with 16 points. West Plains’ Seri King was meet medalist at 21:16.81. Salem freshman Zoey Elliott was 12th overall at 26:24.15.
This week the Salem runners are scheduled to compete in the Steelville Invitational Thursday.
