The Bunker girls’ basketball squad needed extra time to knock off the Salem Lady Tigers 52-46 Jan. 2 in Salem.
The Lady Tigers dropped to 3-11 overall. Bunker improved to 6-5.
Bunker took an early 11-7 lead, but a strong showing from sophomore Addison Fulton gave the Lady Tigers a one-point advantage. Fulton netted 10-first half points to put Salem ahead 18-17 at the break.
The teams continued to trade buckets in the second half. A pair of treys from freshman Abby Terrill in the third quarter helped Salem go into the final quarter ahead 30-26.
Bunker closed the gap in the fourth, as Kinsey Barton matched Salem’s scoring with eight points in the period. Fulton scored six of Salem’s eight points, and regulation ended knotted at 38-38.
The Lady Tigers ran out of steam in overtime. A. Fulton and senior Fayth Kaminski combined for eight points in the extra period, but Bunker went on to score 14, including seven from Barton, to close out the contest.
A.Fulton posted 22 points for Salem.
Barton had 23 for Bunker.

Mtn. Grove Tournament
The No. 10 seed Lady Tigers went 1-2 in the 14-team 10th annual Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament to conclude 2023 portion of their schedule Dec. 26-29 at Mountain Grove High School. Salem fell to No. 7 Norwood 70-28, defeated No. 14 Mansfield 42-39 and lost to No. 12 Ava 41-37 in consolation.
No. 3 Alton upset top-seeded Licking 65-35 in the championship game.
Dec. 29 – Ava 41, Salem 37: The Lady Tigers needed a quarter to find their offense in the consolation game, but it was a quarter too late against the Lady Bears. Sophomore Taylor Fulton put in Salem’s only basket in the first quarter, and the Lady Tigers fell behind 16-2 going into the second quarter.
Salem lit up in the second quarter, led by five apiece from A. Fulton and T. Fulton. Kaminski and Terrill also put in three points each to pull Salem within single-digits 27-18 at intermission.
Salem came within five points of Ava in the third but was unable to catch up in the final quarter.
T. Fulton and Kaminski led Salem with nine points each.
Paris Henry had 17 for Ava.

Dec. 28 – Salem 42, Mansfield 39: Three Lady Tigers finished in double-figures in Mansfield victory.
Salem went ahead 7-6 in the first quarter, but a double-digit second quarter gave Mansfield a 17-16 advantage at halftime.
Raven Gilliam ensured the Lady Tigers wouldn’t be down for long, as the freshman netted eight points in the third quarter to put Salem back on top 29-24 with a quarter to play.
Kaminski put in six in the fourth, and senior Emily Strange chipped in four to hold off Mansfield.
Kaminski and Gilliam paced Salem with 12 points apiece, while Strange added 10.
Carli Lemons had 12 for Mansfield, and Haven Tripp had 10.

Dec. 26 – Norwood 70, Salem 28: Despite a 17-point performance from Kaminski, the Lady Tigers stood no chance against Norwood.
Norwood roared out to a 22-4 start in the first quarter and matched that effort in the second to take a 44-13 lead into the break.
Kaminski fired in 12 points in the third, including two triples, matching Norwood’s third-quarter effort, but Norwood kept a 56-27 lead going into the fourth.
Salem netted one free throw in the final quarter.
Kaminski led Salem with 17 points.
Addy Gray had 15 for Norwood.
