The North Wood R-IV Board of Education met for its monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 14. In attendance included board members Aaron Brooks, Ron Hedrick, Jenna Dunn, Jarred Brown and David Massengale. Also in attendance included Superintendent Jeff Dodson, Principal JC Flores, and Bookkeeper Lois Stacy. Board members Jimmy Decker and Jr. Rictor were absent.
Four people are running and only three board member positions are available, so North Wood R-IV will need to have an election, reported Dodson.
Brown welcomed guests Karen Huff, Wilma McFarland, Konnor Hemman, Orion, Zane and Sara Massengale. Huff, Sara Massengale and McFarland presented the board with a board appreciation gift from CTA and PTO. Hemman and Orion Massengale gave a short presentation on the new JAG flag that was designed by JAG students.
Strategic plans were discussed. Dodson informed the board that there would be a business after hours dinner; however, the date is undecided. Dodson also provided an update on facilities, the plan for kitchen renovations, new bleachers in the FEMA building, and finishing touches to FEMA lighting and pads.
The board discussed the purchase of new buses.
Dodson informed the board that enrollment was at 15 for PK and 162 for K – 8 and attendance was at 94.2%. Graduation will be May 7 at 1:30 p.m. Dodson also presented the board with a preliminary calendar for 2026-27 that will be voted on in March.
In addition, the board approved the following, as presented:
• A bid from McNew for lights in the FEMA building
• A bid from Build Tech
In closed session, the board approved extending Dodson’s contract for one year and providing Dodson a 5% raise for the 2026-27 school year.
