Salem Memorial Hospital Board of Directors met Tuesday evening for a regular board meeting and in new business the resignation from Wanda Tatom from the board of directors was announced by board member Dr. Leigh Ann Price.
Tatom submitted her resignation to the board recently, Price said following the meeting. The board unanimously accepted the resignation Tuesday.
Tatom was elected to the District 3 seat in April 2022, when former board member Dennis Fiebelman did not seek re-election. No reason was provided Tuesday in open session for her resignation, and she was not in attendance.
Also Tuesday, an election of officers was held realigning the board. No reason was shared for the realignment.
The floor was opened for nominations and elected unanimously were chairman, Dr. Price; vice-chairman, Zach Moser; and secretary Karen Brown, who retained her seat.
This is the third reported realignment of the board since February. During closed session Feb. 25, Ray Bruno (former board member) resigned as chairman in closed session, and Mike Swyers was chosen as chairman, Tatom as vice chairman and Brown as secretary.
After the April municipal election was held, the board realigned at the April 16 meeting with Swyers continuing as chairman; Price as vice chair; and Brown, secretary.
In closed session minutes from June 28 and July 10, Dr. Price was acting chairman, according to minutes received from SMH.
Chief Executive Officer Brooke Bollman gave an extensive report Tuesday on financials and strategic planning that is under way.
Several misallocations have been identified in the general ledger and are in process of being properly allocated, according to Bollman.
“I know it sounds like there are a lot of those, and there are a lot of messes to clean up, but we're working on them little by little. Every month this will get a little cleaner, and hopefully we won't have all of this moving around, but until we can get it ironed out, there's just going to be some of the reallocation,” she shared.
One example was in the miscellaneous expenses item. Several invoices allocated there should have been entered in another part of the ledger, said Bollman.
Days cash on hand were reported as 28. Going forward this number is going to seem lower due to an improper formula used to previously configure the total, she said.
“I will say this has not been accurately figured. And so, moving forward, this is going to seem lower, but where there's been money included in the figure on this, cash on hand, that really should not be so,” continued Bollman.
