Several questions were asked about the pool by the park board during its May 20 meeting, with parks director Melissa DuBois providing answers:
Q. Are there warranties associated with the pool?
A. DuBois answered that there was a whole warranty book associated with the pool—people that did the plumbing, the electric, or the install; unfortunately, most of the warranties were for a year or five at most, and the pool is quite a bit older than that. Warranty information for the pool liner has not been found, so DuBois cannot confirm warranty information for it yet.
Q. Can the pool not be patched for the season and then repaired later?
A. Westport Pools did the installation of the pool but is not the manufacturer of the pool liner. Westport Pools was sent the photos by DuBois, and it initially advised that it might be able to live through the season. After contacting the pool liner manufacturer, the manufacturer did not recommend patching it. DuBois reached out to the manufacturer for clarification on why. She has not received that clarification yet.
Q. Why is there no pool cover for prevention purposes?
A. Pool covers for municipal pools are not recommended. Hail, of the size seen on April 18, would have penetrated the cover and still damaged the pool liner.
Q. Why don’t you leave water in it?
A. The pool does not have heated pipes. There is a freezing concern if water were left inside. Even when the pool is winterized, some of the pipes still manage to burst and need replaced.
