The Salem R-80 Schools Board of Education met via Zoom today (Thursday) at noon to discuss changes in the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan (SRCSP).
Recommended changes were discussed regarding the plan.
The board unanimously approved changes including:
• the length of isolation and quarantine after exposure will be five days out of school and five days masked upon return.
• the test-to-stay option is available for anyone who has been exposed to COVID-19. Certain text of this instruction did not match a chart containing the same data. The board approved a change to correct the inconsistency.
• under mitigation measures, the verbiage was changed to “all staff should wear a mask within six feet of other adults.” This is a suggestion, not a mandate.
Superintendent Dr. Lynne Reed shared that she had been in contact with Zach Moser at Dent County Health Center, regarding the latest updates of active cases in the county.
Administrative intern Branden Piatt reported 22 out of class at the high school, with seven positives; and six quarantined at Salem Middle School, according to Principal Richard Parks.
Administrators announced Thursday afternoon that school would not be in session Friday, due to continued winter weather and county road conditions.

John Hewkin has been a sports fan since he was a kid. He’s played, coached and been a fan of sports. I was a sports writer for 15 years before moving back to Missouri, but to this day you will still find me in my man cave a lot of nights and weekends watching something that requires a ball.
