The Dent County Commission held its regular Monday meeting. Present were district one commissioner Wes Mobray, district two commissioner Gary Polk, and presiding commissioner Gary Larson.
The agenda and minutes from the April 18 meeting were approved.
Treasurer Denita Williams reported CART funds received are $71,534.88, down year-to-date from last year about one percent, or $2,837.96.
Commissioners discussed damage to many county vehicles at the road and bridge department due to hail last week. They are checking the roof and building structure for damage as well.
Assessor Jamie Homeyer attended to remind the public that annual assessment forms were due March 1. Her office has extended the deadline until May 1 (postmarked); and the online service will be open through April 30. Anything received from May 2 onward, will receive a late penalty.
County Clerk Angie Curley reported a packet was received from the National Association of Counties (naco.org) containing a few samples of a book, The Marvelous Adventure of County Land, an AI-creation provided by NACO.
Curley also reported payroll was to be approved and bids would be opened at 10 a.m. for a single year financial audit.
After bids were opened from Daniel Jones & Associates, Arnold, $25,040; and Deidiker, Alvarado, & Associations, West Plains, $12,500; the commission voted 3-0 to accept the lower bid.
A special election for the Bunker school board is planned for June 4. The school board has voters in three counties, but Reynolds will host. Salem voters in the district will need to vote at the Bunker Firehouse on June 4. The change is a cost-saving measure for the district after a tie-vote in the April 2 election.
Resident Delbert McCarter attended regarding county road 3210. Polk reported that road is to be fixed this year, including some leveling. McCarter mentioned lowering the speed limit too. Unfortunately, the road receives a lot of camper traffic due to Google Maps routing people off Hwy. 68, then to Montauk State Park.
