The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meetings Thursday, June 26, and Monday, June 30. In attendance included county clerk Angie Curley, first district commissioner Keith Green, and second district commissioner Jimmy Williams. Not in attendance Thursday was presiding commissioner Gary Larson. In Larson’s absence, Curley designated Green as acting presiding commissioner on June 26 and Jimmy on June 30.
Curley reported that payroll is to be approved. Nine businesses are behind on turning in their county liquor licenses, due June 30 (yesterday). She has worked to remind businesses, including letters and courtesy calls. Businesses without county liquor licenses are unable to sell alcohol. The Dent County Sheriff may need to provide a courtesy visit, shared Curley.
Shannon VanKirk, collector, reported that June 30 (yesterday) was the deadline for SB190 applications. If any resident missed the deadline, they may sign up again next year beginning April 1. There have been 390 applications received.
Denita Williams, treasurer, reported on PILT funds received for the month: $186,132; this is an increase of $7,814. She also reported CART funds on June 23—up 8.9% from last year, $91,402.10.
Jimmy announced $30,100 was received as reimbursement for replacing rock from the Department of Conservation.
Jamie Homeyer, county assessor, reported June 23 that 85 out of 115 counties in Missouri were not in compliance regarding being forced to raise taxes by the Missouri State Tax Commission. Dent County was one of the counties who is in compliance, and there will be no reassessments this year.
District representative Jason Smith’s representative Grant Wilson provided a report that congress is attempting to get the “Big Beautiful Bill” on Donald Trump’s desk by the 4th of July, with anticipation to work through the holiday to get the bill passed.
Fuel bids were taken for the Road Department and are as follows: County Fuels, $2.48; Phil Mart, $2.66; and MFA Oil, $2.48111. The bid was given to County Fuels.
District One Commissioner Keith Green
The crew plans to grade in the Highway 119 area and Montauk area. Crew members plan to fix a washout spot in the Dent’s Ford area.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading on county roads 4280, 4270, 4020, 3250, 2210, and 2360. Crew members are preparing to work around the TT area bridge. Hauling rock is planned to be completed around county roads 3250, 2210, and 2360.
District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be looking for washouts throughout the county and assisting Jimmy in the district two area, as needed.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
The area worked on last week was washed out over the weekend, with crew members describing the flood of rain, approximately eight inches in some areas, as “catastrophic.” Crew members will be assessing damage and prioritizing projects for the future.
