The City of Salem Board of Aldermen met for its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Oct. 22, in which eastward alderwoman Kala Sisco announced her resignation from her position due to moving outside of her district.
Her last meeting will be Nov. 12. In attendance were mayor Greg Parker, Sisco and aldermen Catherine Dent and John Whelan. Not in attendance was alderman Shawn Bolerjack.
“I sincerely want to thank all of you for your confidence and voting me in to represent you as your eastward alderwoman. My resignation is simply due to moving outside of my district, but it has been an honor to serve you. The city is moving forward in a positive direction, and I am thrilled to see where it is going moving forward,” said Sisco.
Sisco continued to say that she learned a lot from her position and time within the city and shared how grateful she was for being given the opportunity to serve.
“We are extremely blessed with the administrative staff, the city workers, boards and committees that represent this city,” said Sisco. “Just last week, I passed Steve, our public works director, picking up trash downtown on a frosty degrees of 30 in the morning. His smile and wave as he picked up the trash reminded me of why I took a leap of faith and just to serve when the former mayor Kim Steelman asked me to join the board, and it’s pretty simple: I love this city.”
She encouraged the community to represent the city by going the extra mile, when they can, to show up for their neighbors, their local businesses, or committees and boards—or, if they have the right aptitude, to step up and run to fill her seat in the April election.
“Alderwoman Sisco, thank you for your years of service,” said Parker.
