The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meetings Thursday, Feb. 6 and Monday, Feb. 10. In attendance included presiding commissioner Gary Larson, first district commissioner Keith Green, and county clerk Angie Curley. Not in attendance Thursday was second district commissioner Jimmy Williams; reporting on second district road work was department supervisor Travis Turner. Williams was in attendance Monday.
Jamie Homeyer, assessor, and Shannon Vankirk, collector, discussed the SB190 application and clarified the ordinance the commission will adopt. The commission agreed 2-0 that any “Homestead” real property occupied by an eligible taxpayer as the primary residence includes surrounding real property up to five acres. An eligible taxpayer shall not claim more than one primary residence. Applications will be available beginning April 1 with a deadline of June 30.
Larson reported he attended a meeting in Jefferson City for the Solid Waste Advisory Board (SWAB), with Tammy Snodgrass reporting. Larson further reported that there will be an IDA meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Salem Public Library basement. Commission will be in attendance.
In public comments, KSMO Radio’s Stan Podorski reported he visited congressman Jason Smith’s Ways and Means Committee Office in Washington D.C. He described that the office was quite impressive with plenty of memorabilia representing Salem and Dent County on the walls.
Curley reported that absentee voting begins for the April 8 municipal election on Feb. 25. The only districts holding an election are the following: City of Salem, Dent County Fire Protection District, C-4 Iron County School District, Bunker R-3 School District, Rolla #31 School District, and Rolla Fire. No election will be held for any other districts.
Curley also reported payroll and bills are to be approved. Curley balanced with the collector and assessor on all monthly collections, abatements, and add-ons for the month of January.
Zach Moser, County Health Officer, discussed the sickness in the community and the closure of Oak Hill R-I school due to absences. The commission appointed Moser as health officer pursuant to RSMo 205.100, approving 2-0.
District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members are cutting brush on County Road 6400. Crews will also be working on bridges on County Road 5670 and 5680, near Bunker.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams (Travis Turner reporting)
Crew members will be cutting brush on County Road 4340 and hauling rock to County Roads 4290 and 3330. A culvert extension will be installed on County Road 4280, while a pipe will be installed on County Road 4290.
District One Commissioner Keith Green
Crew members will be preparing roads and equipment for the upcoming winter weather. Crew members will also continue cutting brush.
District Two Commissioner Jimmy Williams
Crew members will be grading county roads 4050, 4055, and 4290. Crew members will also be preparing roads and equipment for the upcoming winter weather.
