The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 7, county clerk Angie Curley told commissioners during the weekly meeting Monday in the Dent County Courthouse.
She added that absentee voting continues in the clerk’s office, and that anyone with questions about voting can call the clerk’s office at 729-3350 or email dent@sos.mo.gov. She also pointed out that The Salem News ran an informational voting graphic in its Sept. 22 edition. The graphic is still available at thesalemnewsonline.com.
The commission also moved its meeting from Oct. 12 to Oct. 13, a Tuesday, due to the Columbus Day holiday.
• First district commissioner Dennis Purcell said parts of his district received over an inch of rain Sunday. Grading will be done this week on county road 5440, and grading and hauling of material will be done on roads 5100, 5103 and 5105.
A grader that needed repair was replaced by Erb Equipment with a temporary replacement, and the repaired county grader was expected to be returned to Dent County Monday.
He met with the tourism committee Sept. 21 and the group approved six reimbursements and approved a request for an extension.
• Second district commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on roads 2330 and 5225, brush cutting on 2200 and materials hauled to 2070.
He said due to high winds in some areas over the weekend, some trees will need to be removed from county roads. He said parts of his district also received over an inch of rain.
• Presiding commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that despite COVID-19 halting in-person training for county commissioners this year, next year’s training will be held remotely if needed.
During the Sept. 21 commission meeting, Grant Hamlet and Joe Bruno from Scenic Rivers Sheltered Workshop discussed a grant request for the SB40 board that would total $193,072. The commission also approved raising CARES Act funding to $150,000 for public entities and $50,000 to small businesses. The deadline to apply for small businesses is Dec. 10, while the deadline for public entities is Dec. 15.
