A neighbor called 911 reporting smoke from a residence at the corner of West Acuff Street and South Henderson Street, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Dent County Fire Protection District and Salem Police Department were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival Officer Mike Loveday of the Salem P.D. stated he saw heavy smoke coming from the residence. Soon after, a backdraft caused glass from the windows to blow out, according to firefighters on scene.
No one was home during the fire, and a family pet was saved from the home.
City utilities and an SMDH ambulance, were also present.
Bill Parsons has lived in the home since approximately 2016.
The fire will be investigated by a state fire marshal, after the scene is secure. The cause is undetermined at this time, but is believed to have originated in a back bedroom.
