First airing in 1966, the Newlywed Game concept has delighted crowds for over five decades, and once again, Friday at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. For the second year, Healthy Dent County is sponsoring a version of this classic game show starring local, not so newlywed, couples. This year’s contestants are Max and Judy Dunn, Mike and Glenda Wofford, Clint and Barb Medlock and Nathan and Nicole Miracle.
Max and Judy Dunn will celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary in July. Together they have two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. Max is retired from the Conservation Commission and Judy has worked in education for 45 years, swearing to retire one day. In their free time, they enjoy rides on their Rhino UTV, visiting the Current River, spending time with family, and “just good ole’ country fun.”
Mike and Glenda Wofford will be married for nine years this May. They have two daughters, Mandi and Morgan. Mandi and her husband, Dustin Miller, and Morgan and her husband, Zach Parks, have provided Mike and Glenda with three wonderful grandchildren, Colby Welch and Baylee and Payton Parks. Mike is a Master Plumber and owner of Wofford Plumbing, he has been self-employed for 30 years and Glenda is the director of Salem Public Library where she has been employed for nearly 43 years. They enjoy camping, a variety of games, horse racing, side-by-side rides, seeing movies, hanging out with family and friends and being active members of the American Legion where they both maintain leadership positions.
Clint and Barb Medlock recently shared their 33rd anniversary. Together they have four children and seven grandchildren. Clint is retired from the Department of Conservation where he worked as a mechanic for 28 years and Barb works as an Assistant Vice President, Loan Compliance Officer, and Loan Officer at the Bank of Salem, where she has been employed for 24 years. They spend their time jet-boating on the Current River, camping, traveling, cooking together, and volunteering with the American Legion where Barb serves as Ladies’ Auxiliary Vice President and Poppy Chairwoman. They enjoy spoiling their grandchildren most of all.
Nathan and Niki Miracle are celebrating their “tin” anniversary. They have two daughters, Lily, 6, and Rose, 4. Nathan is a physician assistant at Salem Memorial District Hospital and Niki is a homemaker as well as principal and head educator at the Miracle Homestead School. They enjoy binge-watching The Office and having date nights when time and sitters allow.
Healthy Dent County’s Kim Shelton believes the Non-Newlywed Game “serves as great entertainment for the community,” and that this year’s event promises no less.
The doors at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Single tickets to see the reincarnation of this beloved game show are $20 and include light refreshments, or a table can be sponsored for $300. A cash bar will be open. Leis will be sold throughout the evening to support particular couples.
Whether one is a fan of the long-running production or interested in how well local couples know their spouses, come out for a night of fun and to support Healthy Dent County.
