Bath salts were present in blood specimens analyzed following the death of a 40-year-old Dent County man who died in May, according a July 8 report sent to The Salem News from Dent County Coroner Gina White.
Kevin Roth died 7:14 p.m. May 16 after a three-day stay at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, according to White’s report.
Cause of death was Hypoxic Encephalopathy following cardiac arrest.
White was able to obtain blood specimens from the date of Roth’s admission. In toxicology reports released July 8, Alpha-PVP from the use of bath salts was found to be present, according to White’s report.
“It’s the first that I have dealt with,” White said. “No one sells it in Salem, although it can be bought in Rolla, Sullivan and Licking.”
On May 13 a call was received that Roth was having breathing problems, White stated in her report. EMS crews from the hospital found him in cardiac arrest. After working with him, they were able to get his heart to start working and he was transported to the emergency room at SMDH. He was later transferred to Phelps County Regional Medical Center, where he died three days later.
