The Dent County Fire Protection District Board met for its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Oct. 8. In attendance were board members Craig Smith, David Greenshields, Liz Gruendel, Mike Godi, and Dr. Leigh Ann Price.
The board reviewed the financial report with an ending balance of $187,614.58, as of Sept. 30. The board discussed changing the current general fund banking account to a money market account for better interest rates. After discussion, the motion was made, seconded and carried all for to go with the money market account. The board also reviewed bills, payments, and statements, and approved the budget as presented.
Treasurer Dave Wells requested department heads send budget requests to him, so the 2025 budget can be compiled.
The monthly reimbursement report presented a total of 10 calls for the month and 195 total calls for the tear. Total reimbursement so far for the year is $29,337.50.
In old business, Chief Floyd reported that the AFG grant is still in the works.
In new business, the board discussed the audit report presented by K Deluca Audit services. It was noted in the audit that because of lack of staff, the board needs to keep on top of financial reports. No major deficiencies were noted and all finances were within prescribed standards. The board approved the audit report and signed the Management Representation Letter (MRL).
LJ Hart and Co Bond representatives were present to discuss bonds with the department. Tom Pisarkiewicz gave a presentation on bonds, what the difference between bonds is, and how to go about obtaining them. The board will review and discuss.
• the city had contacted Floyd with a fire hydrant project it would like the department to assist with. After discussion, the board decided the district did not have the funds to participate.
• Everything passed for ladder testing.
• All items were sold that had been listed on Purple Wave: the Dodge Pickup, $11,000.00; John Deere Gator, $5,100.00; and the sprayer sold for $1,200.00. All items have been picked up.
• Floyd will be going to the Sentinel Sale and looking at gear that had been ordered and never picked up, with some turnout gear being half-price. Floyd will be getting more information and getting back to the board.
• The district will be participating in the Trunk or Treat on Fourth Street for Halloween, Oct. 31.
• Captain Jarvis reported all six rookie candidates passed the rookie class and graduated.
The next meeting was set for Nov. 12, 6 p.m. at the DCFPD.
