Salem Publishing Company and the City of Salem are once again planning a community-wide yard sale.
This year's yard sale, held at various sites throughout the county, is Oct. 3. The sale is held twice a year, in the spring and fall.
"Our community continues to have success with these yard sales," said publisher Donald Dodd. "If the weather cooperates, you will see a lot of people in town."
Salem Publishing's role is to help publicize the sale through classified advertising (including online), a map published in The Salem News and distributed to venues around the community.
For a $10 advertising fee, those taking part in the yard sale can have classified ads published in The Salem News and The Extra Sept. 29, an ad on thesalemnewsonline.com and listing on a map that will be published as a printable PDF online and also distributed in print at sites around town. The deadline is 10 a.m. Sept. 25.
Yard sales are held at homes and businesses. The city normally offers spots on the parking lot behind the city hall offices on Fourth Street, but will not this year due to COVID-19.
The advertising fee of $10 can be paid at The Salem News. Classifieds can be 22 words or less, and any ads over 22 words are 50 cents per additional word.
"This is a small price to pay for such a big event, and the more people who take part and appear on the map, the bigger the event is for everyone," Dodd said. "The publicity generated with the map and listing of yard sales is what makes this event possible."
To take part in the yard sale and be listed on the map, go to The Salem News office at 500 N. Washington St. or call 729-4126.
