Salem area business leaders gathered at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory Thursday for a presentation on local employment and training service opportunities. The event was an effort of the Central Workforce Development Board, Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and Healthy Dent County. It was just the latest event in a growing workforce investment presence in Dent County.
“We’re going to be focused on Salem and retaining the workforce in Dent County,” said Alan Galindo of the Rolla workforce development office. “We want to educate business leaders on programs and services available to them free of charge through the job center system. We also want to provide residents with a better means to reenter the workforce or obtain the training they need to further their career.”
Galindo and Geoff Bieniek told attendees Thursday about an assortment of programs to bolster their businesses including Work Opportunity Tax Credits, the Show Me Heroes’ Program on-the-job training wage reimbursement. For residents, they highlighted that one of the biggest new opportunities for career seekers in Salem is the opening of a satellite workforce development office at the Armory. The office is now open four days a week for free consultation on navigating today’s job market.
“We can offer just about everything in services that you can find at the main office,” says career counselor Sue Nardi, who will be helming Salem’s job center. “Whether you need a job, are looking for a job, or are looking for training, we are here for you. Going forward, we will be having regular workshops to educate on job skills. I am here also to help anyone who needs help with their resume. It doesn’t matter your age or anything else. We are full service and ready to help and will guide you through each process.”
Nardi will be at the Armory 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Among the topics for upcoming July workshops at the Rolla office are resume preparation, networking, interviewing and technology skills with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
