Dent County Commission met for its regularly scheduled meeting March 28.
County clerk Angie Curley reported no excuse absentee voting continues through 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 1 (yesterday). Polls open Tuesday (today) at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Voters must bring a photo ID, either a Missouri driver’s license photo ID or a non-driver’s license Missouri photo ID or passport.
If anyone has any questions or need to change their address, they may call the county clerk’s office at (573) 729-4144.
Curley reminds candidates to ask permission from landowners and businesses before posting campaign signs on property. Most polling locations have a policy against electioneering on their property – excluding the old city hall, where it does allow signs within 25 feet. Signs are not permitted within the public right-of-way. Signs must have “paid for by” and either the candidate’s name or committee and not “paid for by candidate”.
During the meeting held March 25, a bid was received for a used truck for the road department. The bid was from Sapaugh Classic Joyride for a 2015 Ford F250 with 162,000 miles and a bid for $16,000. No decision was made.
Also, during the meeting held March 25, Mobray made a motion to buy a 2024 John Deere 310P backhoe for $127,703.78 from McCoy Forestry & Construction, which is on state bid. The commission unanimously agreed. Mobray also made the motion, which the commission agreed, to put out for bids for a three-year lease purchase financing on the backhoe. Mobray will deliver bid requests to local banks.
Curley states bills need to be approved.
Presiding commissioner Gary Larson reported him and Sheriff Bob Wells went down to Van Buren to visit about NG911, a digital, internet protocol-based system for emergency number services. On March 27, Larson and Wells signed the MOU to proceed with INdigital. Dent County’s part, after five years, will be $35,000 per year. The service through AT&T would have been $93,170 per year. INdigital will potentially have grants available after five years to help lower costs, Larson reassured.
Mobray announced commission received the TAP grant email with information on sidewalks around the courthouse, TAP 9901-871. The engineering contract has been approved by MoDOT. GRE can proceed with preliminary engineering. Dent County may receive up to 80%, not exceeding reimbursement of $39,953.27. Total cost was $49,941.58. The county’s responsibility is $9,988.32.
