Aladdin Jr. presented by Salem Upper Elementary students continues Friday and Saturday at Salem Civic Theatre (Old City Hall).
Opening night was Thursday. Additional performances are Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.; and a 2 p.m. sing-along matinee Saturday.
A packed house showed up for Thursday's opening night. This marks the fifth production of fourth and fifth grade students under the direction of Shannon Phelps. Phelps, music instructor at Salem Upper Elementary and William Lynch Elementary, took on the task of the productions when she began teaching in Salem. Mary Poppins, Jr. was presented in 2019, Annie, Jr. in 2020, Willa Wonka in 2021; and Beauty and the Beast Jr. in 2022.
“This special group of kids and teachers came together to create this amazing, magical musical,” she shared.
Twenty-nine students grace the stage of the production. Of the cast, 12 students are in fourth grade; 17 in fifth; this is the first production for 17 of the students.
