State Representative Ron Copeland proudly announces the successful implementation of the Next Generation 911 (NG911) system in Dent County, thanks to the collaborative efforts of dedicated individuals and the ongoing support of the Missouri General Assembly.
NG911, or Next Generation 911, is an advanced emergency communication system that operates in the cloud and utilizes Internet Protocol (IP) technology. It consists of ESinets (Emergency Services IP Networks) that enable seamless transition of 911 calls and sharing of information among existing 911 systems and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). This system enhances interoperability and strengthens connections between call centers, thereby improving resilience. Additionally, NG911 enables call-takers to receive various forms of multimedia communications, including locations, texts, videos, and pictures. Importantly, it offers automatic backup capabilities in case a PSAP becomes offline, ensuring continuous emergency response services.
State Representative Ron Copeland expresses his gratitude to all those involved in making the NG911 system a reality in Dent County and across southeastern Missouri.
"Scott Cason, the NG91 I Implementation Manager, aid Dent County Sheriff Bob Wells played a major role in bringing the NG911 system to Dent County and 12 additional counties in southeastern Missouri," Copeland, R-Salem, said. "Sheriff Bob Wells' unwavering support has been absolutely instrumental in enhancing our 911 system, and thereby significantly improving the lifesaving capabilities for the citizens of Dent County. I'm truly grateful for everyone's work, and thankful that we are taking these steps to do what is best for everyone living in our communities."
These recent advancements in 911 services underscore the commitment of the Missouri General Assembly to prioritize public safety. Since the release of the Missouri 911 Modernization and Improvement Report in 2017, substantial progress has been made, thanks to the establishment of a statutory funding mechanism for counties and the creation of a grant program.
Central to these efforts is the Missouri 911 Service Trust Fund, established by the State of Missouri to bolster 911 services, particularly in underserved areas. Administered by the Missouri 911 Service Board, this financial assistance program provides grants from the Fund to support 911 communications service projects, ensuring that communities like Dent County receive the critical resources they need to enhance emergency response capabilities.
Through continued collaboration and investment in public safety initiatives, the state remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its residents.
Representative Ron Copeland, a Republican, represents Dent and Crawford counties (District 120) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
