Two of the most notable drivers in the 100 Acre Wood may not be
coming to this year's event, set for Feb. 25-26 in Dent and
surrounding counties.
Local volunteer and organizer Rob Benowitz said popular racer
Travis Pastrana is not scheduled to be at the annual event, which
is the second event in the Rally America Championship series.
"Travis has signed with the Michael Waltrip NASCAR team to run
some races in the NASCAR series," Benowitz said.
Benowitz said it is also not certain as to whether Ken Block and
his partner, Alex Gelsomino, will be in Dent County. The two have
won five straight 100-Acre Wood rallies.
However, Benowitz said the organizers are expecting a good field
of driving teams, including the team of David Higgins and Dave
Mirra.
"There are a lot of people around who are familiar with that
team," Benowitz said. "We are expecting a good turnout for this
year's events."
Registration for the event will be held noon to 7 p.m. Feb. 24
at the Dent County Fire Protection District building. Volunteer
registration will be held 4-8 p.m. Feb. 24 at the fire
district.
The events start with a meet and greet session 1 p.m Feb. 25 in
Potosi, and the race starts at 2:30 p.m. The Feb. 26 events include
a public viewing of the cars and an opportunity to meet the
drivers, and a 10 a.m. start in Salem. Driving teams are expected
to finish at the courthouse around 9 p.m. with an awards ceremony
following.
Teams from coast to coast will race to crown winners in three
national and seven regional classes.
