The Dent-Phelps R-III Board of Education hired new staff and reallocated professional development funds at its monthly meeting April 16.
After discussion, the board approved a motion to reallocate professional development funds for the current year at a calculation of one half of one percent of the district’s Basic Formula monies, based on the district’s June Basic Formula calculation. The board also approved revisions to the 2019-20 budget.
The board voted to put out for bids for preventive maintenance for to the school’s HVAC system for the 2020-21 school year.
After discussion, member Bill Manthey moved to pay a $5,000 stipend to the SPED director each year, beginning in the upcoming year, subject to the position completing IEP evaluations.
Kevin Creighton gave the principal’s report and Vicky Brooker gave the superintendent’s report.
Member Ron Copeland moved to change the superintendent secretary job description title to school secretary and keep the current duties and pay schedule. The motion carried unanimously.
In closed session, the board voted to hire Gabrielle Lopez as the fifth-and sixth-grade math teacher and Alicia Pryor as nurse, both starting next school year. A letter of resignation was read from LeAnn Shults, superintendent secretary.
