The Dent County Commission met for its weekly meeting Monday, Dec. 23. In attendance included presiding commissioner Gary Larson, first district commissioner Wes Mobray, second district commissioner Gary Polk, and county clerk Angie Curley. Also in attendance was commissioner elect, Keith Green.
In Larson’s reports, the Courthouse will be closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It will be open again on Dec. 26. Other than that, Larson wished the county a very merry Christmas.
The commission unanimously approved the re-appointment of Dustin Howard and Daniel Salyer to the Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) board, as recommended by the City of Salem Board of Aldermen.
In Curley’s reports, bills are to be approved, and she continues to work on the county budget for the upcoming year. Curley reminds vendors the last day to submit any statements to be paid is 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30. By statute, the commission cannot pay bills until the budget is approved Feb. 1, 2025.
Bids were opened on the road department surplus property, as follows: Bill Shepherd bid $1,226 for the 1997 Dodge 1500 4X4 Cab, and he bid $75 on the air compressor. Jason Akins bid $500 on the Salt Spreader Box and $750 on the 1997 Dodge 1500 4X4 Cab.
The bids were awarded to Shepherd for the 1997 Dodge Truck and air compressor. Akins was awarded the bid for the Salt Spreader Box.
Mike Elliott, representative for Town and Country Insurance, discussed the Tokio Marine Auto Insurance coverage. Mobray made the motion to make changes in the coverage policy for the road and bridge department auto coverage; Polk seconded, and all agreed 3-0.

Crew members are out grading and hauling rock to county roads 5150, 5170, and 5130. Crew members will also be cutting brush on County Road 5600.
