According to reports from Salem Police Department:
• No injuries were reported in a 2:54 p.m. Oct. 2 crash at the intersection of Route J and Hwy. 72. Two vehicles were westbound on Route J. A 2016 Ford Fusion SE, driven by Elizabeth Light, slowly started forward and stopped for traffic. A 2018 Chevrolet Cruze LT, driven by Brandon Thompson, and owned by Marcus E. Maggard, slowly started forward and stopped behind the Ford. The vehicles started forward again, prior to turning, and the Chevrolet made contact with the Ford. The Chevrolet sustained minor damage, and the Ford moderate damage.
• A two-vehicle crash, occurring at 5:47 p.m. Oct. 11 at the intersection of Highways 32 and 72, resulted in multiple injuries and totaled vehicles. Dorothy McDonald was driving a 2009 Kia Spectra, and stopped in traffic on Hwy. 72, to turn left onto Hwy. 32. A 2005 Ford Mustang, driven by Zane Keeney, of St. James, and owned by Jill Keeney, of St. James, was westbound on Hwy. 32 attempting to turn north onto Hwy. 72. Keeney said he was traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph and unable to make the turn. He skidded, then t-boned the Kia. The Kia spun around facing north. Multiple injuries were reported. McDonald was taken to Salem Memorial District Hospital via private vehicle. The passenger in McDonald’s vehicle was transported by EMS to SMDH. Keeney was transported by Dent County Fire Protection District to SMDH. Both vehicles were totaled, and towed from the scene by American Towing LLC.
